On Going Projects
On the international scene, we are working with the Rotary Club of Chennai-Kilpauk in India to set up a micro-credit bank to help the residents of the area become more self-sufficient. the target population is made up of families who lost everything as a result of the 2004 tsunami that devastated a large part of the eastern coast of India. many have been living a purely subsistence existence ever since.
As a result of contact made by our past president during their visit to a Rotary Club in Mexico, while on holiday, we are working on helping to provide ophthalmic equipment for cataract surgeries in a community in that country.
Since May of 2005 we have been working to rehabilitate a century-old orchard on Camp Road in Cumberland. Project champion Steve Galbraith has led the club in pruning, clearing of undesirable material and generally transforming the site into a family-friendly area suitable for games and picnics.
