First Transit Shelters for Village of Cumberland
On Wednesday, 9 April 2008, President Keith, Cumberland Mayor Fred Bates, members of the Village Council, representatives from the Regional District and a number of Rotarians and family members participated in a ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially handover the two new transit shelters that we provided. Located on Cumberland Road near Bevan Road and on Egremont Road at the corner of Dunsmuir Avenue, the attractive structures have made a huge hit with members of the community. $17,500 of the funds we raised at our Extravaganza Italiana in October 2007 were used to provide the structures. This was our major community project for 2007-2008. Rotary Shares!
Automated Electronic Portable Defibrillators
In 2006 - 2007 our club decided to purchase and place Automatic Electronic Portable Defibrillators in places in the community where large groups of people congregate. Five machines were purchased and donated to organizations in Cumberland, Courtenay and Comox. Value of this project: 12,500.
Thermal Imaging Camera for Cumberland Volunteer Fire Department
Our club's first community project (2005 - 2006) was the donation of a thermal imaging camera to the Cumberland Volunteer Fire Department. This important piece of equipment makes it possible for fire fighters to detect people in a smoke-filled room and adds a significant margin of safety for the firefighters themselves. Value of this project: $13,000.
